Jiu-Jitsu is a Japanese martial art, meaning "the gentle art", which was taught to the Gracie family by Count Koma Maeda. The Gracie family later developed and refined the art so that the techniques rely on leverage; regardless of strength, speed or stature.

It is the perfect martial art for children because it is a complete self defense system. Jiu-Jitsu teaches stand up self defense, throws, take downs, grappling and submissions. Urban Jungle's program deals with bully situations that are so common in this day and age. Techniques and strategies for physical, verbal and cyber-bullying are dealt with in class. We give the students the necessary tools and skills to deal with these uncomfortable situations.

As a parent, it is important for us to know that our children can handle themselves as we cannot always be there for them. By learning to defend themselves in any situation, the students are able to increase their self esteem and overall confidence.

Our expert instructors closely monitor progress every step of the way, from techniques to academics. We emphasize the importance of balancing good grades, eating healthy, making good choices and being consistent in attending class. With consistent practice and attendance, stripes are rewarded and belt promotions follow. Students should never ask about stripes, belts or promotions as we do not encourage a belt driven mind set.

Schedule a free introductory class.
We offer a free introductory class and provide a uniform. Since we book your trial by appointment only, call in advance to schedule your first class. You must arrive 15 minutes before class to participate in your first session. Prices may be obtained on your first visit as we have several options to choose from.

Class Requirements:
No experience is necessary. Everyday gear includes: Urban Jungle t-shirt, full gi (uniform). Long hair must be restrained. No jewelry or hair clips. All nails must be clipped and kempt, hands and feet. Classes are done with bare feet.
(New students receive a free uniform and UJSD t-shirt.)
