| Law Enforcement Training
Police departments around the world have utilized the techniques of Jiu-Jitsu in their training for hundreds of years. When the feudal system was abolished in Japan, Jiu-Jitsu became the official hand-to-hand combat system taught to the Japanese Imperial Guard. Currently, the Japanese police department still utilizes Jiu-Jitsu in their training programs. In Brazil, Grand Master Helio Gracie was requested to design a training curriculum for the Brazilian police and military. He personally participated in the training of many of those units.
The U.S. military contracted the Gracie family to teach the troops Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Upon training...they realized that these soldiers didn't have the time needed to truly learn all of the techniques.
The were forced to streamline it down to 36 of the most effective techniques. These 36 techniques is what is now called "Gracie Combatives."
